Are Resin Lamps Safe? What to Know About Epoxy, LEDs and Kids' Rooms

Short answer: yes. A resin lamp is a block of fully cured epoxy resin with a low-voltage LED underneath, and used sensibly it is one of the safest night lights you can put in a room. Here is what you should know about the resin, the light and placing a lamp in a bedroom or a home with kids and pets.

Is epoxy resin toxic?

Liquid epoxy resin and hardener can irritate skin and lungs while they are being mixed and poured. That is a concern for the maker, not the owner. Once epoxy has fully cured, it becomes a hard, stable plastic.

All the resin we use is non-toxic, and every lamp is cured completely before it ships. You are receiving a finished, solid object, not a chemical in progress.

Does a resin lamp get hot?

No. Our lamps use an LED light that runs on low-voltage USB power and stays cool to the touch. That is very different from an old incandescent bulb, which wastes most of its energy as heat.

Electrical safety tips

  • Use the included USB cable with a good-quality USB wall adapter, a computer port or a power bank.
  • Don't use the lamp with a damaged cable or near water, like any electrical item.
  • Switch the light off with the included remote when you leave the room for long periods.

Can I use a resin lamp as a night light?

Yes. The soft, ambient glow is gentle on the eyes, which is why many customers use their lamp as a bedside night light. The remote control means you can turn it off without getting out of bed.

Resin lamps, kids and pets

  • Not a toy. A resin lamp is a solid display piece. It is heavy for its size and can chip if dropped, so place it where young children can't pull it down.
  • Stable surface. Put it on a flat nightstand, shelf or desk, away from the edge.
  • Tidy the cable. Route the USB cable where pets can't chew it and nobody can trip over it.

Will a resin lamp turn yellow?

Yellowing is a cosmetic issue, not a safety one. Epoxy can slowly yellow under strong UV light, so keep your lamp out of direct sunlight to keep it crystal clear.

What if my lamp arrives damaged?

Every lamp ships in a protective box. If yours arrives damaged or has a manufacturing defect, send us a photo or a short video and we will send a free replacement. See our refund and return policy.

FAQ

Does a resin lamp smell?

Fully cured epoxy should not have a noticeable smell in normal use. If you notice anything unusual, contact us at support@luxdesin.com.

Can I leave it on all night?

Many customers do, because the LED uses little power and stays cool. As with any electrical product, use common sense and switch it off when you're away.

How do I clean it safely?

Unplug it first, then dust it with a dry microfiber cloth. Our guide on how to clean a resin lamp has more tips.
