How Resin Lamps Are Made: From Sculpt to Glow

Every resin lamp starts as an idea and a lot of patience. Unlike mass-produced night lights, each of our lamps is built by hand over several stages, which is why no two are exactly alike and why handmade pieces take time to make. Here is how a resin lamp goes from sculpt to glow.

1. Designing the scene

Every design starts with a moment worth freezing: a character, a battle, a place. The maker plans the composition in layers, deciding what sits at the back, what floats in the middle and what stands in front, because the scene will be built inside the resin layer by layer.

2. Making the miniatures

Figures and scenery are made from polymer clay, cast resin or 3D-printed PLA, depending on the model. They are then painted by hand, often with very fine brushes, because every detail will be magnified by the clear resin around it.

3. Pouring the resin in layers

We use a high-clarity epoxy resin. Instead of one big pour, it is poured in layers. Each layer needs time to cure before the next one goes on. Layering does two things:

  • It keeps depth and dimension, so the scene reads like a diorama rather than a flat picture.
  • It lets the maker add effects between layers: tinted water, swirling smoke, galaxies, auroras or fire.

The painted miniatures are embedded securely between these transparent layers.

4. Curing completely

Epoxy hardens through a chemical reaction, and deep pieces need time to cure all the way through. Every lamp is cured completely before it ships, which matters for both clarity and safety. Once fully cured, the resin is non-toxic and solid. More on that in are resin lamps safe?

5. Finishing and polishing

After the lamp comes out of its mold, the edges are sanded and the surfaces are polished back to a glass-like clarity. A scratch-resistant finish helps the resin stay clear. Some designs pair the resin with natural wood for a framed, organic look.

6. Adding the light

The finished block is set on an LED base. Light travels up through the clear resin, catches the edges and lights the painted scene from within. Every lamp plugs in by USB, with the cable and a remote control included.

7. Checking and packing

Each lamp is checked and packed in a protective box. If one ever arrives damaged or has a manufacturing defect, we replace it free of charge.

Why every lamp is slightly different

Hand-painting and layered pours mean color, shape and size vary slightly from piece to piece, usually by around 0.5 to 1 inch. That is not a defect. It is the mark of something made by hand rather than stamped out by a machine.

Why handmade takes time

Because of the layers, curing and finishing, a handmade lamp takes days to make, not minutes. Processing typically takes 5 to 18 business days before shipping. Current times are in our shipping policy.

FAQ

Can I make a resin lamp at home?

It is possible, but working with liquid epoxy requires ventilation, gloves and patience, and getting crystal-clear deep pours takes practice.

Is the light replaceable?

The LED is built into the base. If it stops working because of a manufacturing defect, contact us for a free replacement.
