How to choose a book nook kit

A book nook is a miniature diorama that slides between the books on your shelf, like a glowing alley hidden inside your library. Our DIY book nook kits come with pre-cut wooden pieces, warm light strings, auxiliary tools and an English instruction guide. Three things help you pick the right one:

    • Piece count and build time. Kits range from about 55 pieces (Quidditch Teams, roughly 3–4 hours) to more than 1,100 pieces (Ginzan Onsen, 8–14 hours). For a first build, start under 200 pieces, such as the Cupboard Under the Stairs (80 pieces, 4–6 hours) or Diagon Alley (150 pieces, 5–7 hours).
    • Size. Most kits stand roughly 8–11 inches tall and 4.5–9 inches deep, so measure the gap on your shelf first. Exact dimensions are listed on every product page.
    • DIY or pre-built. Most kits are offered as a DIY self-assembly kit or pre-built by hand, ready to display out of the box – an easy choice for gifts.

Harry Potter book nooks and other scenes

Fans of the wizarding world can build Harry Potter book nooks such as Diagon Alley, Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross, Ollivanders Wand Shop, the Grand Enchanted Hogwarts Library and Goathland's Village. Travel lovers can choose Asian street scenes like JiuFen Old Street, Ginzan Onsen, Sawara Town, Hanoi Train Street and Hoi An Old Town, or go vintage with the 1940s Train Cabin, Victorian London Alley and Roma's Midnight Alley. For Middle-earth, our handmade resin book nooks with Lord of the Rings scenes – the Hobbit house, Minas Tirith, the Balrog and Sauron – arrive finished and lit by LED.

    Tips before you build

    • The light strings run on 2 AAA batteries. Because of customs rules, glue and batteries may not be included, so keep wood glue and batteries on hand.
    • Some kits are pre-colored but include pigment for a few parts; the instructions show where to paint.
    • Small parts are a choking hazard, so children should build with adult supervision.

    Book nook kit FAQ

Are book nook kits hard to build?

No special skills are needed. Pieces are pre-cut and shown step by step in the guide; you mainly need patience, glue and a free afternoon or two. Smaller kits take 3–6 hours, larger ones 8–20 hours.

What do I need that isn't in the box?

Plan on wood glue and 2 AAA batteries for the lights. Tweezers and a craft knife help with the smallest parts.

Can I buy a book nook already assembled?

Yes. Choose the Pre-Built (Complete Handmade) option on kits that offer it, or pick one of our handmade resin book nooks.

Do you ship book nook kits outside the US?

Yes. See our shipping policy for processing and delivery times by country.
